Week 1 : Overview of Knowledge Management

On Friday 7 of June , we had the first class of TKM 1291 introduction to knowledge management coordinated by our dear lecture Madam Siti Fatima Abdul Razak . So basically we have been informed about the course outline and how the flow of the lecturers and the tutorials would be so we have known that this subject is 50% coursework and 50% final exam. So it is divided as the followings: 10 % for the tutorials and quizzes, 20 % for the Midterm and 20 % for the assignment. So Madam has informed us that we have two assignments for this subject. The first assignment is about weekly report written in a blog as a sharing for the knowledge management and making the process of understanding this subject is easier. The second assignment is conducting a survey about how and what knowledge management skills and attitudes that Secondary school teachers used to teach the students and then analyzing all the data and presented it as a project.
Then before we start the lecture slides madam asked us a question why do we took this subject , some of us have answered because following the study plan and some have said because it was one of the options of the elective subject offered this semester . Then Madam gave us a brief introduction of what is knowledge management is about. At the beginning we thought that this subject is only theoretical subject until some point when Madam asked us to draw a flower on a piece of paper and no seeing other people drawing and then after we finished she requested that we go around class and see which flowers are identical to others and then we figured out that all our drawing were totally different and then Madam have explained to us the reason which was as she said that her order was a data only with no specific information that’s why that leads to the differences . Then we figured out that introduction to knowledge management is not only theoretical subject but is also a critical thinking subject that always based on logic.

Then we proceed and learned what the difference between Data , Information and Knowledge and then madam requested again another drawing activity which was drawing the famous building in MMU starting from the main gate . Of course because we already have the information and the knowledge we were able to complete the drawing successfully. These activities lead us to know that there are two types of Knowledge which are Tacit knowledge and Explicit knowledge.
